It sounds like the “show-down” between Senior Vice President and General Counsel Brad Smith and a panel of open-source backers at the Open Source Business Conference (OSBC) on March 25 didn’t plow any new ground. Microsoft ‘Albany’: A ‘ValueBox’ to compete with Google Docs
While invited Microsoft testers still have not received any “Albany” code, theories regarding exactly what Albany is have gotten a lot more refined. It’s now sounding as if Albany is going to be Microsoft’s newest attempt to head off Google Docs — at least in the consumer space (which is where Google Docs is strongest).
