Former Yahoo exec to head Microsoft Online Services; Former aQuantive chief quits

Microsoft’s search for a leader for its beleaguered Online Systems business is over and at least one of its top execs seemingly is none too happy with the results.

A plea to the Windows team: Don’t make Windows 7 too Mac-like

If I wanted a Mac-like environment, I’d buy a Mac. Maybe Microsoft could introduce “Windows 7 Luddite Edition” for those of us who value function over form?

Vista SP2: What’s inside?

Over on the jkOnTheRun blog, Kevin Tofel posted the most complete list I’ve seen of what’s in Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) — which sounds like it is on track to RTM in April of 2009.

Microsoft puts more muscle behind its potential ‘Kumo’ search brand

After a weekend of “it’s on-again/no it’s not” rumors regarding Microsoft doing some kind of search deal with Yahoo, it’s worth noting the Redmondians are still pushing ahead with their plan to rebrand Live Search as “Kumo.”

Move over, Ajax. Here comes Microsoft’s ‘Kojax’

The latest Microsoft mobile-related development about which I’m most intrigued is codenamed “Kojax.”. Kojax is a mobile development platform, according to my sources, that will allow Microsoft- — and third-party-developed — applets run in an Ajax-like way on Java-based mobile phones.

Vista-related e-mails I’d like to read (but probably won’t)

The reams of Microsoft internal e-mail that are going public as part of the “Vista Capable”
class-action lawsuit make for great reading. That said, a lot of the reading is ancient history (with most of the missives dating from 2005 and 2006). I want the background on some more current Vista-related decisions and events.

Would you ‘Kumo’ it?

A few months back, I noted Microsoft had been exploring some new possibilities for rebranding its search engine — among them, Kumo. The LiveSide.Net folks are reporting tonight that Microsoft has taken control of the Kumo.com domain and has started redirecting (internally) some of its servers to it.
